My husband is American. From the very first time we met, I started calling him “xiong,” which means “bear” in Chinese. He seems like it, so we continued using the term, and all my friends and family also refer to him as “xiong.” He’s quite the character; most of the time, he’s very cheerful, he makes me laugh all the time.
